Second, the precept against stealing. It is a natural precept, encompassing both minor and grave [offenses]. Among naturally grave offenses, stealing is difficult to guard against. Therefore, in the expositions of the various schools, other precepts are merely summarized in brief; but when discussing this precept, they each expound upon it in three or five fascicles. One must carefully examine and unpack it to be able to avoid faults. Some people have separately extracted this [section on] stealing to include in their private compilations, which also carries the intent of admonition. Ultimately, one must peruse it comprehensively, and therefore it is arranged and listed in order.
