The Dharmaguptaka Vinaya says: There are five faults in taking pleasure in going to the homes of laypeople: first, entering a village without notifying a bhikṣu; second, sitting among men and women with lustful thoughts; third, sitting alone [with a woman]; fourth, being in a concealed place; and fifth, explaining the Dharma to a woman beyond the limit. There are also another five faults: first, seeing women frequently; second, having seen each other, approaching closely; third, growing increasingly intimate; fourth, lustful thoughts then arising; and fifth, on account of lustful thoughts, reaching death or suffering close to death. There are five kinds of people with whom one should not form close ties: if one takes pleasure in quarreling and contention, if one undertakes much worldly work, if one contends with superior persons, if one takes pleasure in roving about without stopping, and if one does not speak words of Dharma to show people good and evil.
