The Pañcavargika-vinaya states: When bringing a chamber pot into the room, tightly stopper its opening. Outside the room, water should be kept filled to the brim. One must not go to the privy with the body naked. The Three Thousand Forms of Deportment states: If one does not wash the places of defecation and urination, one must not sit on the saṃgha's sitting mats; ascending the seat or honoring the Three Jewels will bring no merit if one pays obeisance [while unwashed]. One should remove the kāṣāya and the saṃkakṣikā to defecate and urinate.
