Part 6 explains carrying out the transaction. Under "Washing and Bathing": first it explains coming forward from the assembly. "Three to five persons": nowadays it is one karmadāna who distributes the tallies and makes the announcements, and four assistants who serve the hot water, cold water, and so forth. "Equipped with deportment" means being composed, respectful, and reverent, not necessarily performing prostrations. (Nowadays those who come forward from the assembly each make three prostrations, return to their seats, spread their sitting mats, and only then return to take the items—all of which is not the correct rite.) Next, the karmadāna washes his hands. From "Holding..." onward, the senior monk washes his palms. According to the text, the karmadāna does it; nowadays many [senior monks] are young, so in principle there is also nothing improper. From "Taking..." onward, the senior monk bathes the tallies. "Each recites the verse" means the whole assembly in unison; nowadays the karmadāna chants it alone, which is a corrupt alteration of the transaction. In the verse, the first half is the harmony of noble and ordinary, explaining who is assembled; the second half shows the ritual transaction benefiting living beings, revealing what is being done. As for the karmadāna bathing them himself, the *Bhikṣuṇī Manual* states: "Nowadays it is mostly the senior monk who bathes the tallies, which is not reverent deportment; in principle, if he is elderly, bathing them on his behalf causes no harm, and now this should be adopted."
