In the enumeration and demonstration, the first passage's upper two lines indicate the name and essence. From "merely" onwards, it shows the characteristics of the teaching. The ten unwholesome actions are the causes for the three bad destinies; the ten wholesome actions and five precepts are the causes for the three good destinies: these are worldly causes and effects. The thirty-seven factors of awakening and the six perfections with their myriad practices are the causes for the three vehicles: these are supramundane causes and effects. Although the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna differ, the actions and karma are not distinct. Disclosed according to conditions, the teaching is not strictly delimited, hence it is called "clarifying in general". Furthermore, sūtras mostly refute non-Buddhist views, thoroughly distinguish the works of Māra, and point out the correct path lest one fall into heterodox ways; hence it says "discern and comprehend". Moreover, action and karma are the causes, universally encompassing good and evil; because the mental cause is profound and distant, it is said to be "difficult to know". The subsequent retribution is the effect, likewise spanning suffering and pleasure; because the marks of the effect are coarse and manifest, it says "easy to describe".
