立誓中，初標勸。徵，驗也。應下，示威儀。我下，出誓詞。上明生善；又下，即滅惡。餘更隨時，不必專此。

Regarding making vows: first, it states the exhortation. "Verification" (徵) means proof. Beginning with "should" (應), it indicates the deportment. Beginning with "I" (我), it sets forth the words of the vow. The above explains producing good; beginning with "further" (又), it refers to eradicating evil. Others may further adapt to the circumstances; one need not be exclusively bound to this.
