The three [boundaries] of ritual-action are the arena and the large and small [boundaries]. However, although the four assemblies with an arena include the large boundary, the primary intention is to clarify the arena. Furthermore, regarding the gathering of the saṃgha, in terms of matters, there are general and restricted: "general" means the poṣadha and pravāraṇā, where both internal and external gather together; "restricted" means the remaining dharmas, performed separately according to their respective boundaries. Now, in this text, both boundaries are treated from the standpoint of the restricted. Question: In a general gathering, if one on the arena does not come, does one commit the offense of forming a factional assembly? Answer: The ritual is accomplished, but one incurs an offense. It does not hinder being in different boundaries, and there is no fault of forming a factional assembly. Question: In the small boundary, do poṣadha and pravāraṇā have a general gathering? Answer: Originally, because of poṣadha and pravāraṇā, the suspension and bound were permitted. Therefore, the three small [boundaries] only have restricted gatherings.
