露地中，初句牒名。此下，釋相。此言者，指上所牒也。相顯者，詮示無濫，決知簡覆也。覆下，對覆釋成。說下，別簡。恐謂餘人須爾，二師所為並不須故。一尋內不過八尺，則容相接。

Regarding 'open ground': the first sentence cites the name. From 'This' onward, it explains the marks. 'These words' points to what was cited above. 'Marks are evident' means that the expression is unambiguous, definitively showing that covered places are excluded. From 'Covered' onward, it explains and establishes it in contrast to being covered. From 'Saying' onward, it specifically screens. Fearing that others might think this applies to the rest, what is done by the two masters does not require it at all. Within one fathom is no more than eight feet, which then accommodates reaching each other.
