歷觀往古述作，凡五十餘家；各謂指南，俱稱盡理。然今所立，頗異昔傳；故於卷首略標五例。一曰定宗，二謂辨教，三敘引用，四明破立，五示闕疑。

Surveying the past works and compositions, there are over fifty commentators; each considers theirs a guiding compass, and all claim to exhaust the truth. Yet what is now established differs considerably from past transmissions; hence, at the beginning of the fascicle, five paradigms are briefly indicated: first, determining the school; second, discerning the teachings; third, recounting citations; fourth, explaining refutation and establishment; fifth, indicating the suspension of doubts.
