求解中，初明乞解。由不入界，故須遣信。僧下，明制約。若有等者，謂餘比丘私有請問；由不得共語，推令問師。（舊云被治人止得問師，恐餘人成隨舉故，準《戒疏》隨舉唯局惡見，況隨舉亦不開師，其謬可知也。）

In seeking rehabilitation, [the manual] first clarifies requesting rehabilitation. Because he does not enter the boundary, he must send a messenger. The text from "Saṃgha" downwards clarifies the restrictions. Phrases such as "if there are..." refer to other bhikṣus privately having inquiries; because they must not converse together, they refer them to ask the teacher. (An old theory said that the person undergoing disciplinary treatment was only permitted to ask the teacher, for fear that other people would become followers of the accused; according to the Precept Commentary, following the accused is restricted solely to evil views, and furthermore following the accused does not exempt the teacher either, so its error can be known.)
