後三中。同犯重者，財法亡故。引《涅槃經》，初示正意。謗法者，通前七過；降伏者，總目七法。若準經中，通明七種；今此引之，且證三舉。又下，明別意。果在當來，愚多不信；輕撥聖教，公然作惡。故立治法，使知因果，驅歸正信故也。

In [the section on] the latter three: 'Jointly committing a heavy [offense]' is because wealth and Dharma are lost. Citing the Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra, it first indicates the primary intention. 'Slandering the Dharma' applies generally to the preceding seven faults; 'subduing' generally designates the seven procedures. If based on the sūtra, it comprehensively clarifies seven kinds; here, citing it is merely to corroborate the three suspensions (utkṣepana). 'Furthermore...' below explains a distinct intention. Because the karmic fruit lies in the future, the foolish mostly do not believe it; they lightly dismiss the sacred teachings and openly do evil. Therefore, disciplinary measures are established to make them know cause and effect, driving them back to right faith.
