In other offenses: The two precepts of touching and the eight matters for a nun both involve pārājika, and fearing people might think they both form impediments, he cites [the text] to distinguish them. In the text, 'if stroking or touching' is one clause. The next two clauses clarify the eight matters: the upper clause concerns eight persons jointly accomplishing it; the lower clause concerns one person doing it alone. According to the Commentary, 'eight nuns' should be 'eight persons'; it is a scribal error. That Vinaya asks: 'Is there a case of defiling a nun where one who has not received the precepts should receive them, and one who has received them should not be extinguished and expelled?' The Buddha said: 'There is: if one defiles a nun by bodily contact, this is it.' It further asks: 'Is there a person who defiles a nun who may be granted the precepts?' The answer is: 'There is: if eight persons defile a nun with eight matters, the nun is called defiled, but the eight persons are not called defiled; furthermore, if one person defiles a nun with eight matters, the nun is called defiled, but this person is not called defiled.' The two lines under 'Causing...' summarize the two precepts. The eight matters are fully detailed in the 'Chapter on Nuns'.
