《僧祇》多種,大同《四分》。略舉七相。雀目即屬盲中。聾人下,準彼合有瘂者,下科牒解,必應寫脫。躄音辟,不能行也。尻,苦高反,臀也。鞭瘢音盤,杖痕也。凸,起也,徒結反。凹,陷也,烏洽反。印瘢,今謂雕青也。獸形,彼云作種種鳥獸像。侏儒,短人也。彼律諸遮,皆以不應等語別別結之;今此總括,故云一切等。
The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya has many types, largely identical to the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya. It briefly lists seven marks. Night-blindness belongs under blindness. Under 'Deaf people', according to that text there should also be the mute; that the following section takes up and explains it must be due to a scribal omission. 'Bì' (躄) is pronounced like 'pì' (辟), meaning unable to walk. 'Kāo' (尻) has the phonetic fanqie of kǔ-gāo (苦高), meaning the buttocks. 'Biānpán' (鞭瘢), with 'pán' sounded like 'pán' (盤), refers to cane scars. 'Tū' (凸) means raised, with the phonetic fanqie of tú-jié (徒結). 'Āo' (凹) means sunken, with the phonetic fanqie of wū-qià (烏洽). 'Yìnbān' (印瘢, brand marks) is what is now called tattooing. 'Beast-shaped': that text says making various images of birds and beasts. 'Dwarf' means a short person. In that Vinaya, the various impediments are individually concluded with phrases such as 'should not'; now this summarizes them generally, hence it says 'all', etc.
