In the explanation, the root Vinaya first clarifies praise. The first two lines refer to the twelve dhūtas; it briefly mentions the first and last of the three kinds, hence saying 'and so forth'. Under 'praising', the four kinds of nominal marks can be understood. Next, in explaining the food, it first clarifies the meal eaten at the proper time. The Commentary states that both the major and minor meals constitute an offense. Under 'except', it clarifies the remaining articles. The Commentary states: 'Robes are light, whereas wealth is heavy and hard to relinquish; the oil for lamps consists of slight articles.'
