Among the non-offenses, there are seven; the first three are as above. In the fourth note, 'gruel' refers to that which is thin upon coming out of the cauldron, while the rest are branches, leaves, fine powders, and the like. In the fifth, the note says 'little', because the offense requires that the object be sufficient. In the sixth, there is no invitation, so how could there be an offense? The seventh refers to eating repeatedly before and after: while it may incur the offense of eating when sufficient, it does not incur the offense of turning one's back; provided it does not ruin deportment, eating when sufficient also does not constitute an offense. The Vinaya also states: 'eating before and after in one place', which refers to different meals from the same host, which is evidently not turning one's back; since it is not set forth in the text, it says 'and so forth'.
