In analyzing the marks, regarding the first section, the root Vinaya has two points. First, based on the broad explanation, it clarifies separate invitations. This is the text of the circumstances of exception. When the Buddha had not yet granted the exception, whenever bhikṣus received another invitation, they all used these words in reply, as cited in the Transactions Manual. When they later reported to the Buddha, there were therefore seven exceptions. From 'if according to' downward, next, based on the origin story, it clarifies begging separately. The 'person difficult to discipline' refers to Devadatta, clarifying that the Buddha laid down the precept in order to restrain him. (Our root school only has these two.) The Sarvāstivāda Vinaya Vibhāṣā provides three, all of which discuss non-assembly; the first clause summarizes generally. From 'also' downward, it lists them separately. Above, saying 'also clarifies' means also clarifying the previous Vinaya text; below, saying 'also has' means also having the above two kinds.
