Third, clarifying separate alms-begging. The four propositions of the Sudarśanavinayavibhāṣā treat identity and difference mutually across the four matters of going, begging, receiving, and food; but the phrasing has omissions, which are supplied below. The first proposition: begging together and begging separately must both also involve going; since strictly begging together makes the marks of the offense easy to know, here it presents both together as either identical or separate. From "And..." onward clarifies the places of receiving and holding food; these two are both identical. The second proposition: ought to have begging separately, then possessing three differences, with only receiving being identical. As for distinguishing difference in the commentary: the treatise is based on receiving being identical, so different places also incur an offense; the Vinaya is based on sharing a place, so not being together is granted an exception. Now one must rely on the Vinaya, and therefore in this proposition the marks of the offense are omitted. The third: ought to have begging separately, hidden within going, so that all four kinds are different. The fourth: two different and two identical, with all four kinds fully present.
