不犯指前本異九種。
Next, regarding making an announcement: First, those 'without cause.' The Commentary states: 'It refers to lacking the first six of the nine above; those who have a cause can moreover benefit themselves, whereas those without a cause must announce their departure.' From 'If' on, if one has the six causes above, it is prescribed that one must announce one's entry. The latter three govern the assembly, so it only mentions six. If considered from the standpoint of the great assembly, they also apply to the entire assembly; because when it is not a time of famine, they divide into two groups and mutually announce departure and entry. The Commentary states: 'The reason for announcing departure is to protect the donor's intention; announcing entry is to protect the intention of the monks inside.' As for 'according to seniority,' the Vinaya says: 'Enter according to the seniority of the elders.' The Commentary says: 'Since the person has a cause, entering requires proper etiquette.' Failing to announce is a duṣkṛta because it violates the teaching. Question: 'If one leaves without a cause without announcing it, does one commit an offense or not?' Answer: 'In terms of equally violating the teaching, by principle it should be assessed accordingly. Alternatively, leaving without announcing causes no harm to the assembly; entering is the opposite, so the penalty is prescribed for it.'
