In explaining the second [condition], the Sarvāstivāda Vinaya Vibhāṣā first clarifies women's ornaments. Below, it excludes men's articles. As for weapons and musical instruments, holding them also incurs a duṣkṛta, which is why they are excluded. For 矟 (lance), the pronunciation is suò (initial sh-, rhyme -uo); it is a long spear. Below, 'if...', it clarifies that employing peers makes both the employer and the employed incur a grave [offense]. Below, 'Vinaya...', it next cites the root Vinaya. This is the text under non-offenses. Because it contradicts the above, the commentary resolves it. Below, it cites a treatise to verify this, demonstrating that it is not a routine exception.
