四明通塞，標中。四行各立名塞；一行中，兼有餘行，或少或多，皆號為通。初門唯塞，第三唯通，二四兩兼。又二中通者，持犯自通；三四中通，持犯互通。如是求之。

In the fourth, "Explaining Open and Obstructed," in the rubric: Each of the four practices standing alone is called obstructed; when within one practice other practices are combined, whether few or many, it is called open. The first section is solely obstructed; the third is solely open; the second and fourth combine both. Furthermore, openness in the second is mutual openness within maintenance or violation; openness in the third and fourth is mutual openness between maintenance and violation. Seek it in this manner.
