Under the third: That [sutra] clarifies the ten non-virtuous courses of action of the transformative teaching; yet because the meaning of the two matters is the same, it can serve as evidence. The Karma Commentary has: "These ten kinds of dharmas then pervade good and evil, matching well with the metaphor below." Due to the heaviness or lightness of the mind, there is arising or non-arising; hence it states, "sometimes present, sometimes absent," etc. From "As..." downward, revealing through metaphor. "Extreme" is a metaphor for a heavy mind; "fragrance and foulness" are metaphors for good and evil; "tiles and wood" are metaphors for light neutral [states]; "held in the hand" is a metaphor for action; once the object is removed, the presence or absence of residual scent is mapped to the three minds, as can be seen. (The ancient [view] said this sutra shared the same tenet as the Abhidharmakośa, which is incorrect. How could a Buddhist sutra share tenets with a treatise? One should say: The Abhidharmakośa and others take this sutra as their source, and that is acceptable.)
