In citing proofs: the treatise text, while explaining precepts, raises giving through loving-kindness because giving is the foremost of the six perfections; being the practice of a great being, using it for comparison is sufficient to show the supreme superiority [of precepts]. The text has two sections: first, it explains that giving and precepts have equal merit. Below "Moreover," it explains that giving does not equal precepts, also in two: first, it explains that giving and loving-kindness are narrow and limited. Speaking of "providing material goods" means wealth, food, and other goods can aid the present realm, but cannot reach the past and future. Below "Precepts," it next reveals that precepts are universally pervasive. Below, it cites treatise proofs to indicate the fault of partial restriction; this is identical to the meaning in the *Abhidharmakośa* of the capable and incapable realms mutually transforming and arising, which will be seen in the text below.
