In "Pointing out the extensive texts": the two Vinayas grant many exceptions, as was just cited. Regarding the stringency of the *Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya*'s intention, it states: if another's woman is drowning in water, one must conceptualize her as the earth and pull her out; if not, one offers bamboo, wood, ropes, and the like. From this we know that if she is conceptualized as a woman, no exception is granted. From "must..." downward, it concludes with an exhortation. That the two Vinayas are lenient is merely to rescue another; that the *Mahāsāṃghika* is stringent is to guard against harming oneself. "The accumulation of faults," etc., presents this intention of stringency.
