斥濫中，初文，上二句指人。未知，謂學之未及。昧教，謂雖學不通。既下，顯濫。道謂諸教異同，俗則朝代差互。未能通會，故二俱不達。

In refuting corruption: in the first passage, the first two lines point out the persons. "Not knowing" refers to their study not having reached it. "Ignorant of the teachings" refers to having studied but not comprehending. From "Since…" downward, the confusion is shown. "The religious" refers to the differences and agreements among the various teachings; "the secular" refers to the discrepancies across dynasties. Failing to harmonize them comprehensively, they comprehended neither.
