In the separate explanation: the first section, directly clarifying the middle. Universally considering the divisions and clusters, it is broadly divided into two: in the first two divisions, the marks of faults are coarse and heavy, mostly consisting of cessation and separation, hence called the precept division; from pāyattika downward, it mostly regulates robes and medicines, where bodily and verbal actions are contrary, called the deportment division. Based on these two divisions, it explains the order of listing. First, clarifying the listing in front: 'distant and proximate preparatory stages' is provisionally stated in accordance with the two offenses in the *Daśādhyāya*; in terms of what was established previously, the distant should be called intermediate, the first division having both, while the next division has only the proximate, the distant being subsumed below. The independent [sthūlātyaya] is the fruition offense, its name discriminating it from what is generated. The phrase 'or...' clarifies what is placed behind. Nakedness and using hair are both the same as non-Buddhists, and all are regulated as committing a sthūlātyaya.
