2.6

敘意，初科，上二句徵。實下，釋所以。戒體者，是善法之聚，聖道之基；超越人天，堪為物供；生福益世，實由此焉。是下，引證。受謂受體，持謂隨行。性即體也。

In stating the intention, first subsection: the top two sentences pose the inquiry. Below, where it says "Truly...", it explains the reason. The precept-essence is the accumulation of wholesome dharmas, the foundation of the noble path; surpassing humans and devas, it is worthy of worldly offerings; generating merit and benefiting the world truly stem from this. Below, where it says "This...", it cites proof. Reception refers to the reception-essence; maintenance refers to subsequent practice. "Nature" is the essence itself.
