引律中，初《僧祇》開儉。為資道故。而下，鈔家準酌。別人一夏可一石許；或遇豐儉，用有寬窄，故令隨時。鹽準前者，亦計一夏所須多少。

Under citing the Vinayas: first, the Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya allows exceptions during famine, for the purpose of sustaining the Path. From "and" downward, the author of the Transactions Manual deliberates: for an individual, about one dan per summer retreat; or encountering abundance or scarcity, usage varies between loose and tight, hence it is made to accord with the circumstances. "Salt follows the former" also means calculating how much is needed for one summer retreat.
