十一。（佛在曠野城，因前造房斫伐神樹非沙門法，呵責而制。）壞音怪，損也。壞即是業，生種即境，禁斷此過名戒。

[Precept] Eleven. (The Buddha was in Āṭavī. Because they had earlier built rooms and cut down spirit trees, which is not the way of a śramaṇa, he rebuked them and instituted the precept.) 壞 is pronounced *guài*; it means to damage. Damaging is the karmic act itself, living plants are the object, and prohibiting this fault is called the precept.
