Under defining the name correctly, it first sets out the prātimokṣa text. From "Ghosts..." downward, it cites the vinaya to repeat and explain. In the notes, it first indicates the meaning of "village." From "Therefore..." downward, it wards off confusion. Fearing that some might be misled by the name and think it refers to destroying spirit shrines, the various schools are those cited below. In the Daśādhyāya-vinaya, 蟁 is pronounced *máng* and should properly be written 虻 [horsefly]; for 蛺蝶, the first character has the fanqie *gǔ-xié*, meaning flying moths. The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya divides them into two, designating grasses and trees as the "village of ghosts and spirits."
