In the verbal method, the first clause marks similarity. From "If..." downward, it explains the meaning, first clarified by concession and refutation. It means that while based on the method it is restricted, discussed with respect to the medicine it applies generally. The note shows two general applications: that flavors apply generally means that nourishing the body and curing illness combines both oneself and others; hand [reception] applies generally as above. From "Why..." downward, text is cited as proof: namely the precept text on extra medicine. There, it explains that forfeiture has three distinctions: medicine of six days is returned to the owner, who may consume it; seven days is as cited in the Transactions Manual; medicine of eight days is forfeited to a pure person. Both the Yichao and the Precept Commentary are found in [the commentary on the] thirty [niḥsargika-pāyattika precepts].
