In the conclusion, the first four lines urge cultivation. The lower two lines admonish. "Attained accordingly" refers to receiving food. "Lost accordingly" refers to forgetting mindfulness. "Being seized by poison" indicates the reason for the loss: because poison is fierce and abundant, mindfulness cannot be achieved. This is as the Matṛkā says: "If it is not so, one is seized by rākṣasas," rākṣasas being a metaphor for the three poisons. Thus the trouble of mouth and belly causes grave harm; enjoying a moment's pleasure invites calamity for countless kalpas. One should know that the three poisons are precisely the three destinies. Therefore, when facing situations, one must guard the mind no less than approaching a deep abyss or treading on thin ice. Hence the *Karma Commentary* says: "Since a great man cannot commit great transgressions, would he sink and drown for the sake of a single mouthful of food? What he does is feeble in the extreme!" The compassionate instruction is profound and earnest; will students still deceive themselves? Alas!
