初門，來請中，《十誦》。明立維那，下翻寺護，謂監護寺事也。餘名如上卷。《僧祇》，初教答請。恐為緣阻，故不定答。若有下，令審實。不得下，明預探。此約生分，必是舊識，則不須之。

In the first section, concerning 'coming to invite,' the Daśādhyāya-vinaya explains establishing a karmadāna (translated below as 'temple protector'), which means supervising and protecting the affairs of the monastery. The other names are as in the preceding fascicle. The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya first instructs how to respond to an invitation: fearing obstruction by unforeseen circumstances, one does not give a definite affirmative response. From 'If there is...' onward, it instructs one to verify the reality. From 'One must not...' onward, it explains inquiring in advance. This applies to unfamiliar donors; if they are already old acquaintances, this is unnecessary.
