In the fourth [heading], the Wubai wen contains five matters. The first is examining the offered items. 'Those who make Buddha-objects' refers to present-day artisans who carve or paint Buddha images, encompassing both monastics and laypeople. From 'If previously...' onward, the second explains fulfilling vows. This refers to a donor household whose capacity is insufficient and who wishes to circumambulate incense three times and transfer the offered items three times, making that serve as three gatherings; because this contradicts their original intention, it is called 'unfulfilled.' From 'If...' onward, the third is accepting offerings for spirits. The Hārītī Sūtra states: When the Buddha was traveling in the country of Dadu, there was a woman by nature evil who constantly stole people's children. The Buddha preached the Dharma to her and told her: 'From now on, dwell beside the Buddha's vihāra. When people who have no children come to pray, you shall grant them; now whenever people prepare food, they offer it to the bhikṣus.' Wishing vows (呪願) means seeking blessings on behalf of the donor; this is detailed in the sixth section. From 'Wine shops...' onward, the fourth is selecting donor households. Butchers and liquor shops arouse suspicion and criticism, so monks are not permitted to enter them rashly. Since other times were prohibited previously, it says 'all.' That other [butcher/tavern] doors may be entered must depend on there being a valid reason: inviting the saṃgha to provide food, causing them to observe the precepts and suspend their trade, which serves as an expedient means to guide them. From 'If together...' onward, the fifth permits sitting with one's fellow disciple.
