In the section on the protocol for expounding the Dharma, in the first subheading, it first encourages laypeople to protect the Dharma. Because it was praised by the Buddha, the sūtra says: "If there is a person who can protect and uphold the Dharma, you should know that this person is a great dānapati to the Buddhas of the ten directions." Next, under "Furthermore...", it admonishes monastics about accepting alms: it first presents the admonition. "Tumble-mustard seed" (tinglizi) is a metaphor for an extremely small amount. Next, it explains the marks of breaking [the precepts]. Afterward, it presents the bad names. "Dregs" (zi) means impure; "crooked" means not upright; "phantom" means having no reality; "thief" means encroaching upon and falsely damaging offerings of faith; "drunk" means the spiritual nature is dazed and confused; "caṇḍāla" means capable of harming a person's life of wisdom. It points to thirty-one items, but currently twenty-eight are seen.
