In the third section, there are five rules. First, guarding against damage and loss: the note says 'offerings from others', meaning bedding and the like, as they are all donated by others; 'a vessel of goodness' refers to one's own body, because it is capable of receiving the Path. 'Together with...' onwards removes flirting and joking. 'A śramaṇa...' onwards means not lying down first. 'Furthermore...' onwards means revering the seating place of the Saṃgha; by raising analogies and citing proof, this can be understood by consulting the text. In the sūtras, this refers to the Ratnacūḍa-sūtra; also, the Mañjuśrīparipṛcchā-sūtra states: 'After death, one sits upon an iron bed.' 'If...' onwards means not rising later.
