The second section: the first passage. The five dharmas: [first,] a mind of compassion is impartial, free from the fault of discrimination. Second, humility and self-effacement, free from the fault of arrogance. In the commentary, there are four sentences for the practitioner to reflect upon himself. The upper two sentences are from the Brahmā Net: "Bad things to oneself, good things to others." The lower two sentences come from the Vimalakīrtinirdeśa Sūtra; that text continues: "Constantly with a single mind, seeking all merits." Third, sitting and rising in orderly fashion, free from the fault of disrupting the assembly. In the commentary, the character ying is pronounced in the departing tone; it means conforming. Lowering downward and looking upward, actions and movements conform to propriety, hence it says "timely." Fourth, not speaking mixed speech, free from the fault of frivolous discourse (prapañca). In the commentary, the first sentence explains preaching the Dharma above; the next sentence indicates not speaking mixed speech above. Fifth, maintaining silence, free from the fault of vexing the assembly.
