Fourteenth: In the Mahīśāsaka-vinaya: "begging for dogs, begging for birds, and reducing one's begging"—the three characters for "begging" (乞) are all pronounced in the departing tone (qì, to give). "Beyond one's share" means receiving more and giving it away. In the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya: "humans" refers to beggars and the like; "non-humans" refers to ghosts, spirits, birds, and beasts. In the Mātṛkā: distinct classes among human beings. "Without fault" means not defiling households.
