In the next section, the Dharmaguptaka-vinaya: first, it teaches learning dhāraṇī. From 'Suffering from vomiting' down, next it teaches using medicine. Human hair is slightly warm, so it can stop vomiting. For those suffering from heat, the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: 'In cold times mix with aloeswood, in hot times mix with sandalwood, to smear upon the body.' Decomposed medicine that has not fallen, not needing to be received, means it was previously accepted, and no dust or dirt has fallen into it. The Mahīśāsaka-vinaya: Aucklandia root cures swelling and poison, and dispels bad odors. Chanting dhāraṇīs without eating salt, etc., resembles heterodox arts, but is permitted due to circumstances. The Mahāsāṃghika-vinaya: wheat must be roasted until charred black, ground into powder, and mixed with freshly drawn water. The Daśādhyāya-vinaya: 'Impure' refers to contact overnight, etc., for which an exception is granted only to the sick. The Dharmaguptaka-vinaya: for external application, both the healthy and the sick may use it.
