If coarse words are spoken once, it is a saṃghāvaśeṣa. In accordance with the quantity of words, for each statement clearly made, each is a saṃghāvaśeṣa; if unclear, a sthūlātyaya. If by writing, sealing, sending an emissary, or making signs, he makes her understand, it is a saṃghāvaśeṣa; if she does not understand, a sthūlātyaya. Excluding the two tracts, speaking of other areas is a sthūlātyaya. Coarse words spoken to a non-human female, a paṇḍaka, or a person of dual gender, if understood, are a sthūlātyaya. If coarse words are spoken to an animal that cannot transform its shape, or toward a male, all are duṣkṛtas. For a nun, it is a sthūlātyaya; for the lower three assemblies, a duṣkṛta; down to the following precepts, it is likewise. Cases of non-offense: speaking on the contemplation of impurity, or speaking on the Vinaya, receiving sūtras, or in questions and answers, because of having no lustful intent.
