此謂助伴黨惡諫僧言：「調達者，具明法律，我今喜樂，云何設諫？」為此過本也。

This refers to the wicked partisans supporting him and admonishing the Saṃgha, saying: "Devadatta is fully clear on the Dharma and Vinaya; we now take delight in him, so why make an admonition?" This was the origin of the fault.
