("Not losing the robe" means that within a saṅghārāma there is a single sīmā; "losing the robe" means that within a saṅghārāma there are several sīmās. Likewise for trees, threshing floors, carts, boats, villages, houses, halls, storehouses, and granaries, their distinctions of sīmā are also thus. These saṅghārāmas are of four kinds as above. A "tree" is equal in height to a person, with enough shade for a seated posture. A "threshing floor" is a place for threshing the five grains. A "cart" is the place where it turns around; the sīmā of a boat is also thus. A "village" is of four kinds. A "hall" mostly features an open and exposed appearance. A "storehouse" accumulates and stores various goods. A "granary" stores grain and rice. An "āraṇya" has no sīmā; between eight trees, the distance between each is seven bows, and a bow is four cubits of a medium forearm in length. As for the saṅghārāma sīmā: this saṅghārāma sīmā is not that saṅghārāma sīmā, nor that tree sīmā, down to a storehouse or granary sīmā; other formulations are also like this. As for the saṅghārāma sīmā: at the edge of the saṅghārāma, the distance reached by a stone or brick thrown by an average person is called the "robe sīmā"; down to the storehouse sīmā, it is also thus. If a bhikṣu places a robe in a saṅghārāma, down to spending the night under a tree, before the first light of dawn arises, if he abandons the robe, or holds the robe in hand, or reaches the distance reached by a thrown stone, [there is no offense]; if he does not abandon the robe, does not hold the robe in hand, and does not reach the distance reached by a thrown stone, when the first light of dawn arises, according to the robe separated from, it is a niḥsargika-prāyaścittika.)
