佛在舍衛國。時，跋難陀為人說法，從索所著衣。俛仰與已，單衣入城，便云：「祇桓中被賊。」諸俗譏嫌。比丘舉過，佛便制戒。

(The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. At that time, Upananda expounded the Dharma to someone and demanded the robe he was wearing. The person reluctantly gave it to him, entered the city in a single garment, and said, "I was robbed in the Jetavana." Laypeople criticized this.
