佛在舍衛。比丘蘭若處為賊所打，并奪什物，佛令留一一衣置村舍內。六群寄衣遊行。同徒舉過，佛困制戒。

The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. Bhikṣus in a wilderness dwelling were beaten by bandits and had their belongings seized; the Buddha allowed them to leave each one of their robes inside a village house. The group of six monks entrusted their robes and wandered abroad. Their companions raised their fault, and the Buddha, pressed by this, laid down the precept.
