即村外靜地也。處者，若地中，若地上處，若乘，若擔，若空，若架上，若村，若阿蘭若，若田處，若處所，若船，若水，若私度關塞不輸稅，若取他寄信物，若取水，若楊枝，若園果、草木，若無足眾生，若二足、四足、多足，若同財業，若共要，若伺候，若守護，若邏道，是名「處」也。

This is a quiet place outside a village. 'Place' means: whether in the ground, on the ground, in a vehicle, in a burden, in the air, on a shelf, in a village, in an araṇya, in a field, in an abode, in a boat, in water; or crossing a customs gate secretly without paying tax; or taking another's entrusted goods; or taking water, tooth-wood, garden fruits, grass, or trees; or creatures without feet, with two feet, four feet, or many feet; or joint property; or mutual agreements; or keeping watch, guarding, or patrolling roads—these are what is called 'place.'
