For every cut of the knife he makes, and for each stitch and needle stroke, [the bhikṣu incurs] a fall. If he spreads it out to inspect it, pulls it, irons it, rubs it with his hands, holds the corners to pull it square, attaches patches, attaches borders, looks for thread, or splices thread—in all [such actions it is a] duṣkṛta. For bhikṣuṇīs and others, it is a duṣkṛta. Non-offences: making it for a related bhikṣuṇī; making it for the Saṃgha; making it for a stūpa; or if he borrows it to wear, washes it, dyes it, repairs it, and returns it to its owner—all are permitted.
