佛在舍衛。有居士請舍利弗等，露敷好座；倫蘭難陀尼見已，妄言「所請並是下賤。我若請者，則調達等龍中之龍」。食還具說，佛因訶制此戒。

The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. A householder invited Śāriputra and others, laying out fine seats in the open. The bhikṣuṇī Sthūlanandā saw this and lied, saying, 'Those you have invited are all lowly and base. If I were to invite, it would be Devadatta and others—dragons among dragons!' When they returned from the meal, they reported this in detail; the Buddha therefore rebuked her and laid down this rule.
