佛將弟子從拘薩羅遊至舍衛。佛及眾僧大得餅食，令阿難分與餘乞人。遂以黏餅與女人。又以外道得食，號「禿頭居士得」。佛集僧以所聞告，因制此戒。

(The Buddha led his disciples traveling from Kosala to Śrāvastī. The Buddha and the saṃgha received a great amount of cakes and food, and he ordered Ānanda to distribute them to other beggars. He then gave sticky cakes to a woman. Furthermore, non-Buddhists obtained food, calling it 'obtained from the bald-headed householders.' The Buddha assembled the saṃgha, announced what he had heard, and thereupon formulated this precept.)
