佛在舍衛。迦留陀夷不喜見烏，竹弓射殺，遂成大𧂐。居士禮拜，見共嫌之。比丘舉過，佛因制戒也。

The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. Kālodayin disliked seeing crows and shot them dead with a bamboo bow, which then turned into a great pile of corpses. Laypeople came to pay respects, saw them, and jointly deplored it. Bhikṣus raised the fault, and the Buddha accordingly laid down the precept.
