佛在羅閱祇。沓婆摩羅子知僧事，外施不赴，衣服破壞。後僧得貴衣，便白二與之，六群後悔。比丘白佛，便訶而制戒。

The Buddha was in Rājagṛha. Dabba Mallaputta was manager of Saṃgha affairs; he did not attend outside alms-givings, and his robes were worn out. Later, the Saṃgha obtained expensive robes and gave them to him through a motion and one announcement (ñattidutiya-kammaprecise: jñaptidvitīya-karman), whereupon the group-of-six showed remorse. The bhikṣus informed the Buddha, who rebuked them and instituted the rule.
