佛在舍衛。六群不好覆身入白衣舍，居士譏言：「所著衣服不好覆身，如婆羅門。」比丘舉告，佛因訶制。
The Buddha was in Śrāvastī. The group of six entered a layperson's house without properly covering their bodies. Householders criticised them, saying, 'The clothing they wear does not properly cover their bodies, just like brahmins.' The bhikṣus reported this, and the Buddha thereupon reproved them and instituted the rule:
